In Memoriam: Prof. Alfredo Moscardini
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of a distinguished scholar and educator, Alfredo Moscardini, on August 15th, 2023, at 5:15 AM. His profound contributions to the advancement of education and science in Ukraine will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
Prof. Moscardini devoted five decades to academia, commencing as a lecturer and culminating as a revered professor over the last thirty years. His academic journey began with a focus on mathematical modeling, which later evolved into the domains of System Dynamics, Systems Thinking, and Cybernetics. He had the privilege of calling Stafford Beer a personal friend and mentor, cementing his legacy in the realm of cutting-edge ideas.
Upon retirement, Prof. Moscardini harnessed the power of the Viable System Model (VSM) as a diagnostic instrument in his consultancy practice, aimed at enhancing operational excellence within companies. His professional pursuits also led him to become a globetrotter, leaving his mark in twenty different countries, disseminating the knowledge of mathematics and Systems Thinking.
Of particular significance is his affiliation with Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, where Alfredo Moscardini nurtured a culture of intellectual growth and exploration. His tenure there contributed profoundly to the institution's academic fabric.
As we mourn the loss of Alfredo Moscardini, we also celebrate his enduring legacy. His memory will remain an inspiration to colleagues, friends, and aspiring scholars. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family during this time of grief. While he may have departed from this world, his ideas and principles will continue to illuminate the path for generations of future researchers and educators.
